Abstract
This section describes the technical fundamentals and operating procedures that form the basis of all planning work in respect of iron and steelworks. In addition to the fuels available in the area in question, the nature of the available iron ore is the main governing factor when selecting processes for the reduction of ore to pig iron, for steelmaking, and to a certain extent for the further processing of the steel to the usual end products of a normal iron and steelworks.
