Abstract

As shown in the preceding chapters the neural tube during its ontogenetic development forms bulges and furrows on the superficial surface and sulci and ridges on the ventricular surface. Serial sections are necessary in order to ascertain that the bulges display all the characteristics of the neuromeres as defined by Orr (1887). Furthermore serial sections enable detailed study of the relationship between the various structures which are observed.
