A Quantitative Analysis of Bone Changes Following Anticonvulsant Therapy

  • Chapter
Calcified Tissues 1975

Abstract

The bone manifestations in patients on anticonvulsants have been described as analogous to osteomalacia (5, 6, 8, 12), but no information on the frequency and degree has been published. The present paper is a study of the bone characteristics in 60 outpatients treated with phenytoin for more than 10 years. It comprises morphometric analysis of undecalcified and decalcified bone from a standard area of the right iliac crest.
