Abstract

In recent studies, anti-glomerular basement membrane antibodies (anti-GBM) have been implicated as causative agent in the pathogenesis of certain human glomerulonephritides [1]. This conclusion was based on the observation that anti-GBM antibodies are present in the kidneys of all cases of Goodpasture’s syndrome and one-half of the cases of human subacute glomerulonephritis so far examined. Glomerulonephritis can be passively transferred with anti-GBM antibodies, eluted from nephritic human kidneys.
