Abstract

It is now generally agreed that circulating antibodies do not play a significant role in the pathogenesis of chronic liver diseases in men. In rabbits the formation of circulating antibodies against cytoplasmic, mitochondrial and nuclear antigens of liver tissue could be produced by active sensitization [2, 6]. These antibodies, however, have no pathogenetic effect on the liver as we could demonstrate by injection of great amounts of immune serum.
