Abstract
Because of the highly variable demands of glass molding there is no universal mold material. Heat resistance is a primary requirement since mold materials are exposed to hot, viscous glass in the forming process. Next in importance are requirements on wear, corrosion, working and polishing behavior. Operational conditions (wall strength, external cooling, lubrication, timing etc.) put the stress on one or the other property, while some differences can be compensated.
