Abstract

The discovery of the pathogenesis of hemolytic disease of the newborn by P. Levine (1939) and the simultaneous and related discovery of the Rh factor in 1940 by K. Landsteiner and A. S. Wiener (1940) together constitute one of the scientific milestones of this century.
