Abstract
In this book, I have tried to evaluate the natural history of protozoa in light of a unifying theme: the physical constraints of being small and unicellular in relation to the physical and biological environment. Although protozoa comprise a systematically diverse assemblage of organisms, they share a number of functional traits which make them more than just a group of “small animals.”
