Abstract

Current collection always operates with sliding contacts, even the wheel trolley does; it slides considerably on the wire. The reason of introducing the wheel was, of course, the hope of less wear, which, however, was not gained. Actually the wire usually wears a few times more when the counter contact is a metallic wheel than in the case of a carbon shoe.
