Ultrasonically guided percutaneous nephropyelostomy

Percutaneous nephropyelostomy (PNS) was rarely used for drainage of the renal pelvis and ureter until 1974 when a new technique was introduced, with the insertion of a polyethylene catheter on a trocar into the renal pelvis under fluoroscopic control (Almgård & Fernström).
