Abstract
Mathematica is a powerful tool for computing, programming, data analysis, knowledge representation, and visualization of information. Although our focus in this text will be on the programming capabilities of the Mathematica language, these other features should not be viewed as unrelated. We often need to write programs that carry out complex computations and represent data in a graphical manner to help us visualize a problem we are working on. In this chapter we introduce the elementary operations available in Mathematica. We will give a hint of the richness of the Mathematica programming language.
