Unter einer Welle verstehen wir die räumliche Ausbreitung einer physikalischen Größe. Der Begriff Welle ist vom Sonderfall der Wasserwelle abgeleitet. Dort ist die physikalische Größe die Höhe eines beliebigen Punktes der Wasseroberfläche.
