Abstract
The authors, in their paper “Research and System Requirements for a Lunar Scientific Laboratory”, have devoted their attention to a long duration laboratory on the Moon which would be of major international interest. This certainly appears to be within our grasp technologically, should such an objective be established. However, since there are some precursory activities required prior to the establishment of such a station, I would like to discuss with you the lunar exploration planning that is aimed at the time between the period of the initial manned lunar landing and that of a long duration lunar scientific station.
