Abstract

The theoretical treatment of atomic physics as presented in the preceding pages was based on the introduction of simple atomim codels. The behavior of the models was assumed to be governed by the known laws of classical physics. These laws were then used to obtain the results described in the last chapter. These classical theoretical results were “forced” into agreement with experimental results by introducing seemingly arbitrary and basically incomprehensible quantum conditions.
