Summary

The reaction of the formation of stoichiometric Ni-Zn ferrite from Ni ferrite and Zn ferrite in the temperature range 1,100–1,300° C has been investigated. Change in the chemical composition along the reaction layer has been determined with an electron probe microanalyser. It has been found that the equimolecular ferrite (NiO)0.5 · (ZnO)0.5 · Fe2O3 forms on the surface of contact of two phases. Subsequent reaction forms a reaction layer with a continual change of the molar ratio Ni: Zn from 0 to ∞. The control process of the reaction is the diffusion of Zn into Ni-Zn ferrite with a minimum content of nickel.
