Zusammenfassung
Entwicklung in der Ontogenese ist das Ergebnis ständiger Wechselwirkungen zwischen Wachstum, Differenzierung und Formbildung in einer geregelten zeitlichen Folge unter der Kontrolle von genischen Faktoren und Umwelteinflüssen. Die hier zugrunde liegenden Gesetzmäßigkeiten werden der aufstrebenden Naturforschung erst seit der zweiten Hälfte des vorigen Jahrhunderts Schritt für Schritt offenbar. Die ersten grundlegenden Erkenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der analytischen, entwicklungsmechanischen Forschung verdanken wir Wilhelm Roux. Seine Idee war es, ausgehend von reicher Erfahrung in der beschreibenden menschlichen Anatomie, die Untersuchung des Menschen von höheren Gesichtspunkten aus noch einmal von Grund auf zu beginnen und die gesetzmäßigen Ursachen des Entwicklungsgeschehens zu erforschen.
