Zusammenfassung
Die Übergänge von normaler Körpergröße zu Kleinwuchs sind fließend, und jede Definition ist willkürlich. Im allgemeinen spricht man von Kleinwuchs, wenn die Körpergröße unter der 3. Perzentile liegt oder um mehr als 2 Standardabweichungen vom altersgemäßen Mittelwert nach unten abweicht. Als Zwergwuchs bezeichnet man eine Abweichung von mehr als 3 Standardabweichungen. Aus psychologischen Gründen sollte aber unbedingt vermieden werden, in Anwesenheit des Kindes von Zwergwuchs zu sprechen. Ätiologie und Pathogenese sind mannigfaltig (Tabelle 2.1).
