Understandably, the bulk of this book has been taken up with describing the various SPC techniques. The need for a change in attitude has been emphasised and the point has been repeatedly made that SPC is not just a programme of chart filling. It will only operate successfully in a climate where barriers are being broken down, operators fully involved, supervisors trained to lead, managers committed, customers (internal or external) recognised as being important, and so forth. These factors and others are part of a much wider programme which requires a series of steps to be brought into effective operation.
