Zusammenfassung
Viele Praktiker sind heute verunsichert. Kaum haben sie begonnen, die relationale Datenbanktechnologie einzuführen und zu nutzen, erscheinen bereits wieder neue und vielversprechende Produkte auf dem Markt. Da ist die Rede von verteilten Datenbanksystemen, von temporalen, von deduktiven, von semantischen, von objektorientierten Systemen, von aktiven, von versionenbehafteten etc. Was verbirgt sich wohl hinter diesen schillernden Adjektiven? Das vorliegende Kapitel erläutert einige dieser Begriffe und zeigt künftige Methoden und Entwicklungstendenzen auf, wobei die Auswahl subjektiv bleiben muss.
