Abstract
Previous workers Prorst (12), Polyak (11), and Barris, Ingram and Ranson (1) made lesions in the cat’s visual cortex and traced the resulting fibre degeneration into subcortical areas of the brain with the Marchi method. My experiments are a repetition of their work with the substitution of the silver staining method of Nauta and Gygax for the Marchi method. As the silver stain, also used by Szentágothai (13) in similar experiments, reveals the degeneration of finer fibres than are shown by the method of Marchi based on myelin degeneration products, more details of the efferents of the visual cortex can be given.
