Abstract
Matrices arising in BEM applied to piecewise homogenous media are of specific block structure. The simplest method of solving such sets of equations is to use one of the known iteration schemes. This approach enables one to take advantage of the sparsity of the matrix but the number of operations required is usually large and perhaps worse unpredictable. For that reason iterative solvers are seldom installed in existing BEM codes.
