Abstract

Fostering of up-and-coming scientists is a special concern of the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum in order to ensure rapid application of new scientific knowledge in research and clinical practice. The scientists of the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum are, therefore, involved in scientific teaching, training and postgraduate education besides their main task of research. From 1983 to 1984 alone, 197 doctoral candidates and diploma candidates carried out research studies at the Cancer Research Center. Fifty-eight dissertations, diploma theses and postdoctoral theses were completed in the same period. In all institutes of the Center, a limited number of places are provided for the performance of scientific work necessary to attain an academic degree.
