Quantum Inversion on the Line for Neutron Specular Reflection

Abstract

A scheme for solving the inverse problem in one dimension is applied to neutron specular reflection on surfaces and thin films. A new method is proposed for solving the phase problem in order to obtain the full complex reflection coefficient from measurements. The solution of the inverse problem is obtained in terms of rational reflection and transmission coefficients. A schematic example is presented.
