Abstract
The Pentoxylales is a small group of plants of relatively recent discovery. The stem genus Pentoxylon and ovulate cone Carnoconites have been described by Srivastava (1946), leaf genus Nipaniophyllum by Sahni (1948), and micro-sporangiate organs Sahnia by Vishnu-Mittre (1952). Sahni (1948) reconstructed Pentoxylon (Fig. 11.1 A) and proposed the name Pentoxyleae for the group.
