Abstract
As computers, printed circuit board testing equipment, industrial robots, robotic vision and inspection equipment grow and become more sophisticated, the concept of a computer-controlled PWB assembly and testing system will become increasingly feasible. More and more board manufacturers are looking to totally automate their component insertion, inspection and testing lines. This paper discusses concepts for incorporating robots and automatic loading for PWBs into ATE equipment into an integrated assembly system. Productivity gains through decreased in-process storage and increased quality will be the result of such an automated line.
