  • Frank Riley

Abstract

Electronics is changing the face of most industries today. This is no more so than in those industries concerned with information transfer such as telecommunications, office systems, computers and the like. A company at the forefront of this revolution is Plessey. In particular on its Beeston, Nottingham, site Plessey Office Systems Ltd (POSL) produce digital switching systems, terminals and office automation systems. The Transmission Division of Plessey Telecommunications (PTL) is also located on this site and is primarily responsible for digital transmission systems for voice, data and video displays. The company’s manufacturing managers and engineers continually need to adapt current production techniques and devise new ones to meet the electronic industrial revolution.
