Abstract
In a European textbook on contact dermatitis a chapter on legal aspects is entirely appropriate. In many cases an occupational cause is suspected and proven after careful diagnostic procedures. There then arise a number of questions that are handled in different ways in the different European countries. Facing the Europe of 1992, with its expected migrations of labour, the occupational physician needs to know the essential differences between legislation in the major countries.
