Abstract
THE GREATEST problems in implementation, as distinct from developments in speech technology itself, arise in industrial applications, because of the great diversity of problems to be solved and the need to integrate the speech function into widely differing systems. The cases that follow exemplify the kinds of applications of speech recognition that are currently going into industry. All except one are related to inspection in some form, because this is currently the most important field of application. The experience of users in installing and running these systems, however, is relevant to any situation where voice input and response are combined in a dialogue with a computer.
