Abstract

Spheres and bubbles moving in non-Newtonian liquids are known to show several interesting phenomena. For example Hassager [1] found that the liquid velocity behind the bubbles rising in a non-Newtonian liquid is in the downward direction away from the rising bubble. This phenomenon was called the “Negative wake”. Sigh and Coutanceau [2] reported the existence of a negative wake behind spheres moving in a non-Newtonian liquid, by using a visualization technique with tracer particles.
