Abstract

To cope with the requirements of a task requiring preventive and effective environmental conservation, government and administration must have reliable comprehensive, problem-related and up-to-date information at its disposal. The varied data from different sources must be systematically organized and capable of being forwarded to interested parties rapidly and in a userfriendly form. This is the aim of the UIS (German abbreviation for “Environmental Information System”) which is to be established as part of Baden-WOrttemberg’s Land System Concept, its purpose being to collate environmental data from all departments, and interlink environmental media and sectors to provide a general overview of problems as a whole.
