Abstract

The paper describes an FMS application of an intelligent code tag identification system and why such a system was considered. A standard non-contact reading and writing electronic identification system was specified to identify turbocharger shaft and turbine wheel components upon pallets. The system was then incorporated into a £4.2 million FMS consisting of seven autonomous manufacturing cells utilising gantry robot loaders and Automated Guided Vehicles.
