Herztumoren sind selten. Etwa 70% aller Herztumoren sind gutartig, nur bei 30% besteht die Möglichkeit einer Invasion oder Metastasierung. Bahnson u. Newman [4] entfernten erstmals ein rechtsatriales Myxom mittels „inflow occlusion”, Crafoord [34] gelang es 1954, ein linksatriales Myxom mit Hilfe der extrakorporalen Zirkulation zu exzidieren.
