Zusammenfassung
Häufigkeit: Schilddrüsenkarzinome zählen zu den seltenen Tumorerkrankungen. Nach einer aktuellen Statistik aus den USA rangiert ihre Prävalenz an 12. Stelle der Häufigkeitsstatistik maligner Tumoren (Byrne 1992). Die Prognose des weitaus am häufigsten differenzierten Schilddrüsenkarzinoms ist mit Zehnjahresüberlebensraten von über 80% sehr gut; die Mortalitätsstatistik erfaßt deswegen nur einen Teil der am Schilddrüsenkarzinom erkrankten Patienten. Nach einer aktuellen Übersicht von Franceschi et al. (1993), die 39 Länder erfaßt, variieren die Mortalitätsraten (jeweils bezogen auf 100000 Einwohner) zwischen 0,8 bis 2,8 für Frauen und 0,2 bis 1,2 für Männer. Aus den Daten des Hamburgischen und Saarländischen Krebsregisters läßt sich für Deutschland eine Mortalitätsrate von 0,6 für Männer und 1,3 für Frauen errechnen. Die entsprechenden Mortalitätsraten, die im Krebsregister der ehemaligen DDR erfaßt waren, betrugen 0,5 für Männer und 1,4 für Frauen. Generell liegen die Mortalitätsraten bei Frauen etwa um den Faktor 2 höher als bei Männern. Die von Franceschi et al. (1993) ausgewertete Mortalitätsdatenbank der Weltgesundheitsorganisation läßt in den letzten 30 Jahren eine Abnahme der Schilddrüsenkarzinomsterblichkeit erkennen.
