Catheter ablation: the state of the art

Abstract

Ablative techniques are causing major developments in the treatment of major cardiac arrhythmias. Large series have now demonstrated that, at least in supraventricular tachycardias, this approach is quite safe (2, 3). Its extension into other cardiac arrhythmias is a more recent and promising development. During the IVth International Symposium on the Ablative Techniques, organized by G. Fontaine and M. Scheinman and held in Monaco in June 1988, the state of the art of these techniques was presented by the most important international groups working in the field. The abstracts published in PACE 1988 and a few other nonpublished abstracts constitute the basis of the present report.
