Zusammenfassung

Versucht man die Wurzeln des Wohlstands der industrialisierten Volkswirtschaften des Westens zu bestimmen, so findet man im engeren Kreis der Wachstumsdeterminanten ohne Zweifel die Faktoren Technologie, technischer Fortschritt, Produktivität und Strukturwandel. Sich das tägliche moderne Leben ohne Technologie vorzustellen, ist nahezu unmöglich. Vor der Jahrhundertwende noch wurde das Wirtschaftswachstum hauptsächlich durch den Mehreinsatz der Inputfaktoren Kapital und Arbeit (Solow-Wachstum) und durch eine intensivere Arbeitsteilung auf nationaler wie auch internationaler Ebene (Smith-Wachstum) gespeist. Heutzutage hingegen zeichnen zu einem Großteil die beinahe unendlichen Möglichkeiten des technischen Fortschritts für die Wohlstandsentwicklung von Gesellschaften verantwortlich (Schumpeter-Wachstum).
