Abstract

For a substance, such as histamine, whose normal physiological role has not been completely established (Feldberg, 1954; Gaddum, 1948; Jancso, 1947; Kahlson, 1960; Parrot and Reuse, 1954; Rocha e Silva, 1955; Schayer, 1961), it is difficult to delimit when the effects should be considered toxic. On the other hand, there is no problem in qualifying as toxic the effects when represented by histological alterations or irreversible biochemical reactions, which ultimately produce death.
