Varioliform Gastritis Revisited

  • Chapter
Digestive Disease Pathology

Abstract

Gastritis is very commonly encountered in both asymptomatic individuals and in patients with upper abdominal discomfort; its frequency increases with age. It is the result of various endogenous and exogenous and often poorly defined noxes to the gastric mucosa. It represents a diagnostic and therapeutic problem for the clinician, since correlation between symptoms and histologically proven gastritis is poor, correlation between endoscopic and histological findings is poor, and there is no effective therapy.
