Prognosis in Gastric Carcinoma The preeminence of staging and futility of histological classification

  • Chapter
Digestive Disease Pathology

Abstract

Numerous studies dealing with the predictive value of epidemiological and morphological factors in gastric carcinoma are on record.1–53 Excluding a few of the earliest published papers,2,11,25,35 all of the aforementioned studies stress the major prognostic significance of the extent of the neoplastic disease. From this agreement on, however, controversy is the rule.
