Abstract

The Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) was founded in 1964 on the initiative of the Heidelberg surgeon Prof. Dr. h.c. K. H. Bauer, who died in 1978 at the age of 86. It was constituted as a foundation of public law on the decision of the Government of the State of Baden-Württemberg. Since 1975, it has been one of the major research institutions. On the basis of § 91 b of the German Basic Law, it is financed by the German Federal Government (Ministry for Research and Technology: 90%) and by the State of Baden-Württemberg (Ministry for Science and Research: 10%).
