Der Gastrointestinaltrakt ist neben Lunge, ZNS und Haut das am häufigsten betroffene Organsystem bei AIDS. Die Prävalenz gastrointestinaler Symptomatik ist in der Risikogruppe homosexueller Männer weit häufiger anzutreffen als bei heterosexuellen Drogenabhängigen, Hämophilen oder Intimpartnern von HIV-Infizierten.
