Zusammenfassung
In gewissen Teilstaaten der USA zeigte der Anstieg der AIDS-Fallzahlen in den frühen 80er Jahren ein ungefähr exponentielles Wachstum. Mit etwa zweijähriger Verspätung folgten europäische, pazifische und südamerikanische Länder und weitere 2 bis 3 Jahre später wurden die ersten AIDS-Fälle auch in den Ländern Asiens und des Ostblocks bekannt. In der Karibik und vor allem in Zentralafrika muß man den Beginn der Epidemie jedoch rückblickend sehr viel früher ansetzen.
