Zusammenfassung
Die Sozialphobie wurde zunächst von Marks & Gelder (1966) als Angst beschrieben, die in Situationen auftritt, in denen eine Person im Mittelpunkt steht, wenn sie bestimmte Tätigkeiten ausführt. Situationen dieser Art sind zum Beispiel öffentliches Sprechen, öffentliches Schreiben (etwa beim Ausstellen eines Schecks), Essen in der Öffentlichkeit oder die Benutzung einer öffentlichen Toilette. Die Angst in diesen Situationen tritt dann auf, wenn die Person glaubt, sie könne etwas Peinliches tun, oder andere könnten Anzeichen ihrer Angst bemerken. Die Diagnose einer Sozialphobie wird zusätzlich gestützt, wenn die Person Tätigkeiten, die ihr in Gegenwart anderer Angst bereiten, alleine angstfrei ausführen kann.
