Zusammenfassung

“The uranium-oxygen system is at once the most complex and most studied oxide system known (perhaps the former because of the latter)”. Diese einleitende Bemerkung von L. Eyring (s. „Allgemeine Literatur“ oben) aus dem Jahre 1970 zu einem Kapitel über die Uranoxide hat auch durch die Untersuchungen aus der neueren Zeit nichts von ihrem Wahrheitsgehalt eingebüßt. Sowohl dem System eigentümliche Besonderheiten als auch Unzulänglichkeiten der angewendeten Untersuchungsmethoden haben dazu geführt, daß im Laufe der Jahre, wenn man die verschiedenen Modifikationen einiger Verbindungen mitzählt, nahezu 40(!) verschiedene Oxidphasen beschrieben worden sind. Obwohl die Existenz und vor allem die thermodynamische Stabilität vieler dieser Phasen fraglich erscheint, werden alle in diesem Kapitel behandelt es sei denn, in der gleichen Lieferung sind an anderer Stelle und in anderem Zusammenhang zur schnellen Orientierung des Lesers ausreichende Übersichtskapitel über bestimmte Phasengruppen vorzufinden, auf die dann verwiesen wird. Dieses Vorgehen erschien deshalb gerechtfertigt weil einerseits in vielen Bereichen die wahren Gleichgewichtsbeziehungen nicht bekannt und oft auch nicht aufzuklären sind, andererseits aber dem Benutzer ein Überblick über die möglicherweise auftretenden Phasen und auch die jeweiligen phasenanalytischen und sonstigen experimentellen Schwierigkeiten gegeben werden sollte. Wenn wirkliche Gleichgewichtsuntersuchungen vorliegen, werden diese unter möglichst weitgehender Berücksichtigung der relevanten Literatur ausführlich behandelt.
