Zusammenfassung
Der entscheidende Unterschied zwischen einer zytologischen und histopathologischen Untersuchung ist, daß bei der zytologischen Diagnostik topographische und histoarchitektonische Gewebsveränderungen unberücksichtigt bleiben. Während die Histologie bei der Diagnostik gewissermaßen die dritte Dimension der suprazellulären Anordnung — auch in Bezug zu Nachbarstrukturen — mitbeurteilen kann, beruht die Zytologie einzig auf der morphologischen Zellanalyse. Diesem Informationsdefizit der Zytologie im Vergleich zur Histologie stehen Nichtin-vasivität, beliebige Wiederholbarkeit und einfache und kostengünstige Anwendung gegenüber.
