Abstract

Tunable dye lasers are sources of laser radiation which usually emit in the near ultraviolet, visible and near infrared spectral ranges. The laser active medium is in this case a liquid mixture of dye and solvent molecules of different types; the dye molecules play an essential role in the mechanism of obtaining laser radiation, absorbing the pumping beam (which may originate from a flash lamp or different kinds of lasers) and emitting afterwards a fluorescence radiation amplified in an adequate optical cavity.
