Abstract

The synthesization of crystals of yttrium gallium (YGG), gadolinium gallium (GGG), yttrium scandium galium (YSGG), gadolinium scandium gallium (GSGG) and lanthanum lutetium gallium (LaLuGaG) garnets, activated with chromium and erbium ions, has been recently reported /1/. Nonradiative energy transfer from Cr3+ to Er3+ ions has been mentioned to take place in the crystals pointed out, which may in this way become an effective media for erbium lasers both in the 3 µm and 1.5 µm wavelength ranges.
