Zusammenfassung
Durch die Einführung und rasche Weiterentwicklung molekularbiologischer Methoden, die auch die Erkenntnis über den Umfang des Polymorphismus im HLA-System wesentlich erweitert haben, hat sich das methodische Vorgehen bei der HLA-Typisierung von der Serologie immer mehr auf den Nachweis der Allele aus genomischer DNS verlagert. Dies trifft insbesondere für Antigene der HLA-Klasse II zu, jedoch ist auch für Klasse-I-Merkmale eine rasche Entwicklung zur DNS-Typisierung im Gange. Die Domäne klassischer und neuerer serologischer Methoden bleibt jedoch die Bestimmung von HLA-Antikörpern, die Durchführung von serologischen Verträglichkeitstests vor Transfusion und Transplantation sowie in den meisten Labors derzeit noch die akute Organspendertypisierung.
