Abstract
Ford and Wheeler’s paper on elastic scattering was the first to fully analyze the semiclassical limit of quantum mechanics for a collision process and thus reveal the nature of quantum corrections to classical mechanics therein. This “perspective” discusses the historical setting, the content, and present day implications of this work.
