Pseudoscorpiones — Solifugae

  • Chapter
Multicellular Animals

Abstract

With a body size decreased to less than 1 cm the Pseudoscorpiones are basically limited to crevices in soil with high humidity. However, a wide range of varying land biotopes have been colonized down to the tidal zones of marine beaches. Among the ca. 30 species found in Germany, there are a number of so-called synanthropic species. As predators the Pseudoscorpiones can even find suitable prey in dusty libraries, which has given the cosmopolitan species Chelifer cancroides the charming name of the book scorpion.
