Abstract

The structure of the nuclear envelope was investigated in a comparative study of different plant and animal cell systems (rat hepatocytes, hen erythrocytes, amphibian oocytes, and the marine haptophycean alga Pleurochrysis Scherffelii) using the freeze-etch technique. The observations obtained with this method are compared with those of electron microscopic studies using thin section and negative staining procedures.
